Matt Stevenson was a passionate hockey goalie who died in a tragic car crash on June 24, 2011.  He loved the sport, the goalie position, and had his sights set on helping teach and develop young goaltenders.  In Matt’s memory, we have begun a GOALTENDER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM for the NW Ohio hockey community.  With the assistance of Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter, Mike Mankowski, Mitch Korn, Shane Connelly, Jimmy Spratt, Josh Unice, Jeff Lerg and those who have donated to operate this program, we honor Matt’s memory.

The Head Coach: Jimmy Spratt

Jimmy Spratt is the Director of Hockey Operations and oversees the goaltenders at Bowling Green State University.

Spratt stood between the pipes at the BGSU from 2005-09, accumulating 5924:09 of time in the crease. Spratt also totaled three shutouts in a single season (2008-09), which is tied with two other Falcon goaltenders for the most in a single season. Spratt also allowed the fewest goals (1) in a series against Michigan in 2009. That mark still stands with two others as the least amount of goals allowed to an opponent in a series in a season.

Spratt, who hails from Chesterfield, Mich., was a seventh round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 2004. He also spent time with the in the ECHL for four seasons, one in the AHL (Texas Stars) and two seasons in the CHL. Most recently, Spratt played for the Toledo Walleye in the 2012-13 season, accumulating a 2.98 goals-against average.

Spratt graduated from Bowling Green in 2009 with a degree in Sport Management.
