MISSION STATEMENT

To create a healthy, sustainable and equitable hockey club. We promote long-term athlete development by providing on-ice and off-ice training opportunities that allow each player to maximize his or her potential in a competitive learning environment, while providing positive lessons that allow them to excel in life.

Long-term Athlete Development Model:

VISION

Sylvania Youth Hockey Club conducts ice skating and ice hockey programs. Our club is all-encompassing by offering opportunities for players of all levels while promoting lifelong love of the sport. The primary emphasis is to provide an innovative grassroots foundation for the growth and development of Sylvania Youth Hockey, designing programs aimed at increased participation, improved skills and a responsible environment for the conduct of youth hockey.

Sylvania Youth Hockey has created six distinct categories within its structure to help meet the needs of the youth player:

Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey (all ages) – These programs are designed to meet the needs of the beginning player/skater. Basic skills will be taught equally in a noncompetitive environment. Affordability, fun, physical development and a sociable environment are stressed.

House Hockey League (6U-14U) – The backbone of our club, house hockey encourages internal or recreational play. This affordable program is designed to provide opportunities to play for enjoyment, fitness, relaxation and fellowship. Skill development and team concepts are stressed, rather than winning. Tryouts are not required for house hockey (all registrants are eligible to play in the house league).

All-star Hockey (6U-14U) – This program is available to house league players only and is a supplement to those with the desire and ability to receive additional training and competition. All-stars receive an additional 12-15 practices and participate in 3-4 regional tournaments throughout the season. Tryouts are conducted in early September.

Girls Hockey – Opportunities are available for girls at the house and travel levels. Typically, an 8U girl’s team participates in our house league. In addition, we offer opportunities for the more committed and advanced player at the 12U or 14U level. Girls selected for this team compete in the Little Caesars Michigan Girls Hockey League.

AA Travel Hockey (7U-18U) – Qualified coaches teach higher-level skill development and team play for players with the desire and ability for a more committed hockey experience. Teams participate in the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League. Balance of winning and sportsmanship is stressed, and travel is reasonable and limited to regional. Team objectives include league, state and national championships.

AAA Travel Hockey (10U-14U) – High-performance teams that participate in premier, national level competitions. Elite players are identified and trained by the clubs top coaches. Comprehensive on and off-ice training and skill sessions are conducted. The long-term development plan focuses on preparing players for high-level high school, midget and junior hockey.
