New “Lindsay’s Law” Information and Form
On August 1st the state of Ohio passed “Lindsay’s Law,” which is a new law about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in youth athletes. This law covers all athletes 19 years or younger who practice for or compete in athletic activities.
Senate Bill 252 is named for national heart health advocate and former Miss Ohio Lindsay Davis who suffers from a heart condition and has since dedicated her career to raising awareness of this potentially fatal condition.
What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest? SCA is when the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly. This cuts off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs and if not treated immediately could result in death. SCA is the leading cause of death in student athletes 19 years of age or younger. This new law helps bring light on the dangers and symptoms of SCA.
