Private/Semi-Private Lessons

Private hockey instruction is provided exclusively by qualified instructors approved by the Hockey Office. Our instructors are experienced professionals that offer all levels of instruction based on your specific needs and goals.

Private hockey instruction allows you the opportunity and flexibility to work on all areas of the game including skating, shooting, passing, stickhandling, game strategy, etc, in a 1 on 1 or small group setting.

To schedule a private lesson, refer to the list of private instructors and contact the instructor directly. Please note that instructors set their own rates and lesson schedules based on their availability, and that of Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter.

Nick Parillo

Nick grew up in Schenectady, NY and received a Division 1 Hockey Scholarship to Merrimack College (Hockey East) in North Andover Massachusetts. Following his collegiate career he was invited to attend the Detroit Red Wings Main Camp in 2002. From there he played five seasons of pro hockey including the AHL, ECHL and CHL; including 262 games with the Toledo Storm of the ECHL. Over the last 10 years Nick has developed into one of the most sought after skating coaches in the Ohio and lower Michigan region. He has worked with many of the area’s top prospects and is known in the area as a talented and dedicated instructor.

Mike Mankowski

Mike has been coaching hockey for over 25 years with experience at the high school, Junior A, NCAA Division I and pro levels. Mike began his coaching career with St. Johns Jesuit where he led the team to six Ohio State Frozen Four appearances in ten seasons (1991-2001). From there Mike became a volunteer assistant coach with the Toledo Storm (ECHL) and head coach/GM of the the Toledo IceDiggers (NAHL). From 2005-2009 he was the top assistant coach at Canisius College (NCAA) and held the same position with Bowling Green State University (NCAA) in 2009-10. He has been involved with USA Hockey’s Select Player Development Camps since 1991. Mike is the hockey director at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter and held that position since the 2010-11 season.

Derek Booth

Derek Booth originally from Niagara Falls Ontario, Canada playing 4 years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before embarking on a minor pro career spanning 13 years with stops in the AHL and ECHL and Europe. After his retirement from minor pro hockey Derek went on to coach minor pro hockey for 4 years. Hockey has been an important part of Derek’s life since the day he put on his first pair of skates at the ripe old age of 4 and giving back the hockey knowledge and experience is an important part of his life.

Josh Unice (Goalie Instructor)

Josh was a professional goaltender. He was the Head Coach for the CBR Brave in the Australian Ice Hockey League. Josh joined the Brave in Canberra as their starting import goaltender before the start of the 2015 AIHL season after leaving the Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL. He was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 3rd round (86th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft
